Planted: God Grace
- Old Testament: relationships between God and Israelites and eventually bringing Jesus through their bloodline.
- Israelites disobey all the time and God punishes them
- “I know it’s popular with some millennials that you don’t do the whole spanking thing and here’s the deal, we can tell.”
- The whole purpose of discipline is pain.
- The stakes are higher when they get older (like, jail) so spankings are worth it.
- How is daddy going to respond and what is the discipline going to be? And sometimes we show them grace, and we let them understand (ON OCCASION).
- Grace draws them nearer to us
- We let guilt and shame take us away from God when we should let the grace draw us nearer.
- You can’t hold on to grace and guilt, you have to choose one.
- Sanctification! Instantly saved, lifetime of becoming more like Christ and dealing with your undesired behaviors and wounds on your soul.
- When grace moves in, guilt moves out
- 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
- Thought, memory, struggle: God please remove this from me
- My power is made perfect in your weakness
- So boast about your weaknesses
- God’s Grace: Unmerited favor and love through Jesus Christ.
- God’s grace has been extended to you. You have the Lord’s favor.
- WHEN I AM WEAK, THEN I AM STRONG.
What does grace do to us?
- Gods grace will restore you
- John 16:33
- Peace is not the absence of chaos, it’s the response.
- Gods grace will confirm you
- We don’t stand before a jury or make the case that we are worthy, he chooses us and confirms us for eternity.
- Ephesians 2:4-7
- Gallons of water in ocean 352,000,000,000,000,000,000
- Stars: 100 billion trillion (lol)
- If it exists, we can measure, BUT
- Gods says his favor and grace for you is immeasurable
- Gods grace will strengthen you
- Life punches you, you get knocked down, you pray, go to church, read Bible, and faith gets built back up, then you get hit again.
- Rollercoasters are fun but exhausting
- 1 Peter 5:10
- Fight and work hard and pray for stuff, but no matter what we have Gods grace and love and favor which never changes.
We are not a main character, we are an extra at best. It’s all about Jesus. Take the attention off of us.
