Planted: Planted in the gospel
Filed under #churchnotes on January 19, 2025The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
— Isaiah 61:1-3 (NIV)
- Messianic prophecy 700 years before the birth of Jesus.
- Luke 4 speaks of Jesus reading this and saying, “today that is fulfilled in your hearing”
- We are oaks of righteousness as followers and believers.
- We are going to heaven no matter what, but we must be planted in His ways and that’s on us.
- Deserts.
- Desolate.
- Harsh environment.
- Shepherds tree, deepest roots of any other tree on our planet. 200ft roots
- The harsher the climate the deeper the roots needed to bear fruit.
- 2025 will be difficult because we live in a harsh environment.
- How am I going to be planted in the gospel?
How do we stay planted in the gospel?
1. We accept the gospel.
- There are people in the room that say they’re a Christian, yet there is nothing different with their life vs before.
- For those who say they’re a believer, are you different? Has He changed you?
- Did you truly accept the gospel or just religion.
- It’s not rules and regulations, those are a mirror so you can look at yourself and see that you need a savior
2. We live out the gospel
- Saying “yes” to Jesus is only the starting line
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel
— Philippians 1:27 (NIV)
- Out of all the prayers that we send out to the Father who loves us, when is the last time we prayed for people that we want to start a relationship with Him?
- Make disciples, not just more money
- Use our money to do that.
3. We share the gospel with others.
- 1,000 pastors asked how affective they think their church is at evangelism: 1% think their church is affective at sharing the gospel.
- Parker County needs us
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
— Romans 10:14-15 (NIV)
